15-, 20-, 25-, 30-, 50-, 75-centesimi and 1-lira regular stamps, and 5- + 1.50-lira and 10- + 2.50-lira semi-postal stamps mark the 200th aniversary of the birth of Virgil (Publius Vergilius Maro) in 70 B.C.; but 2000 years from 30 B.C. is 1931 A.D. (there is no "0" year).

500-lira stamp is supposed to depict Archimedes (correctly "Archimede" in Italian) but depicts Archidamos III, a king of Sparta, and the water leaving Archimedes' screw flows uphill.
